The Miracle Water

Don’t we all just envy those women with constant hydrated looking skin? When asked about their skincare routine, the response is always a blunt ‘not much’. We ponder and question on that possibility. Well, lucky for us, we’ve found the answer! You’ve probably heard the term often, and perhaps you have even seen different brands offer this product, but really, what is micellar water? Or perhaps, the better question is, what is micellar water going to do for your skin? Yes, ladies, the answer is micellar water.

First though, what is it? It looks like water, it has the viscosity of water but when you put it on your finger and feel, it has a different texture than water. This water-like substance is loaded with micelles, which are small, cleansing molecules that are dispersed and suspended in water. Micellar water, also frequently called cleansing water, is a cleanser for removing gunk from your face. Unlike a typical cleanser, you don’t have to rinse it off.

Put it this way, micellar water works like a miniature sponge, mopping up dirt and makeup while hydrating your skin. The tiny micelles have an oil-loving ‘tail’ that traps dirt, oil, and makeup and a water-loving ‘head’ that allows the micelles to dissolve impurities so they can easily be wiped away. Micellar waters are super-gentle, so they won’t strip or irritate the skin while cleansing. The idea is that micelles are attracted to dirt and oil, so they are able to draw out impurities without drying out the skin. Micellar water can be used as a facial wash, makeup remover, toner and moisturiser all in one. It is actually an incredible product that, believe it or not it can save your skin!

Okay, so it works like a multitasker, removing makeup, cleansing skin, toning, even moisturising but is it too good to be true? Does micellar water live up to the hype and all that glory it has gotten attached onto its name? What makes micellar water a great choice is that it is gentler on the skin compared to other cleansers. This means that gentle cleansers, like micellar water are able to maintain the skin barrier’s integrity. Harsher products like toners with alcohol can disrupt the skin barrier and over-dry sensitive skin. On irritated skin, strong cleansers can further exacerbate problems. Harsh rubbing to remove makeup and stubborn oils also disturbs skin. Now that we know what micellar water is, we might want to know how to use it and its benefits for our skin. The fact that micellar water is free of alcohol can help promote skin hydration while reducing irritation and inflammation, thus keeping skin soft, supple and smooth. Again, micellar water is typically used as a facial cleanser to help remove makeup, dirt, and oil from the skin. This is due to the presence of micelles that are highly effective at removing dirt and oil to keep skin clear. Micelles can also increase your skin’s permeability, allowing cleansers to reach deeper layers of the skin. Micellar water is also good for all skin types. It is incredibly versatile and well suited for just about anyone with any skin type. It also helps to keep skin clear especially for those with acne, blocked pores, or stubborn blemishes. Because it acts as a makeup remover, cleanser, and toner, it eliminates the need for several other skin care products, which can free up space and reduce clutter in your cabinet. Moreover, it is also great for traveling and can be useful in situations in which you may not have access to running water. It being so portable and convenient makes it a go-to product for most women out there especially the ones with hectic schedules.

Application

Let’s be real, who has the time or even the energy to dedicate themselves to a super-lengthy skincare routine when they wake up or before bed? The good news is that you can cleanse without putting in much effort by using micellar water. Simply saturate a cotton pad with micellar water, then wipe the pad across your skin. Yes, it is as simple as that ladies. Apply in the morning and evening for optimum cleanse. To cleanse the eye area, hold a soaked pad over closed eyes for a few seconds to dissolve the makeup. What’s even better is that you won’t necessarily have to slather on a different moisturising product after, since micellar water also has the ability to moisturise the skin! However, should you want to apply follow up products, we would recommend the use of a serum and moisturiser. For serum, the Skincode Essentials Intensive Lifting Serum will do just fine. It is a light refreshing gel-serum that works to hydrate and restore the skin’s firmness, stimulate cell

renewal, protect skin from free radical damage while quenching dehydrated skin and works to firm, energise and brighten skin as well as fighting the signs of aging. As for moisturiser, the Skincode Essentials 24h Cell Energiser Cream works perfectly. Suitable for normal and every dry skin types, it works to fight the signs of premature aging around the clock. This 24-hour power cream not only restores and preserves the skin, stimulates cell renewal, boosts skin defense mechanism, protects from free radical damage and regenerates and nourishes skin, it also improves skin’s elasticity and firmness and smoothens the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

On a separate note, as much as micellar water can work wonders and all that in one single wipe, there are specific usages to micellar water too. For instance, if you’re wearing heavier makeup or sunscreen, we recommend using micellar water as a makeup remover, then following up with your favourite gentle cleanser. Thing is, makeup can mix with the dirt and oils that have built up on the surface of your skin throughout the day and this can lead to clogged pores, which can lead to breakouts. This is why it’s super important to always, always remove your makeup before bed. Make things simple by keeping micellar water near your bed to remove makeup even when you’re exhausted. To use it as a cleanser, you simply pour it into a cotton pad and rub it over your face, like a toner. Then, just carry on with your skincare routine as normal and remember, there is no need to rinse afterward. Micellar water can replace any daily cleansing routine. Again, we would recommend using it in the morning, followed by an SPF moisturiser, and again in the evening followed by a night cream.

Can’t get enough of micellar water? We don’t blame you! The good news is, thanks to its super gentle formula, you can use micellar water every day. In fact, it’s best to cleanse your skin twice a day, every day, and micellar water can serve as your face wash for all your cleansing sessions.

Ingredients

The Tamarindus Indica Seed Extract in the Skincode Essentials Micellar Water All-in-One Cleanser helps protect the skin against water loss. It activates the natural protective mechanisms of the skin, improving elasticity and smoothness as well as reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
