Gone Are The Dark Days

When it comes to skincare, the earlier the better. The first signs of age usually appear around the eyes. Therefore, redoubled care is needed. This is because the skin around the eyes is five times thinner than the skin on the rest of the face. This means that the eye contour is more prone to dehydration, and consequently the age signs become more visible. Yet, when we come to speak about the eye care department, it is often shrouded in mystery.

Fact is, the eyelids and eye contour area are exposed to tearing, laughing, smiling, crying, and continuous movement due to our facial expressions. Moreover, it is an area where liquids are easily retained, factors which cause swelling in the area to increase and decrease, distorting the skin, and thus, resulting in early signs of aging. This constant “exercise” combined with other types of external aggressors also increase the likelihood of the eye contour aging more quickly, such as pollution, tobacco smoke, stress, sun exposure, mobile devices, and so on, thus making it the first area yet again, to reflect signs of aging.

So how do we care for this delicate area? Is it necessary to use an “eye contour cream”? Do we need to use one every day and do they even work? The truth is, it does work if you use it diligently.

Many people start using eye cream in their 30s when they start noticing the first subtle crease on the outer corner of their eyes but really, even before you see a wrinkle, you can start as early as your 20s. That's because the best results come from prevention. The main goal of an eye cream is to brighten the eye area and reduce the look of fine lines while keeping skin at its optimum health. The eye contour skin is very thin and fragile as it lacks sebaceous glands and collagen and elastin fibers. Furthermore, this small area comprises 22 muscles, and we blink approximatively 10,000 times a day. Because the skin around the eyes is actually thinner and more sensitive, it benefits from mild, fragrance-free and irritant-free products. That is why it is important to focus on products with antioxidants, renewing ingredients, calming and cellular regenerators, which make the skin healthier, with all the conditions for its renewal, restructuring of its barrier and production of collagen. While an eye contour cream is mainly used for hydration, the product must also protect against premature skin aging.

Ladies, using an eye cream has a lot of benefits. It can minimise the look of dark circles. Yes, those unsightly bags that can add on an extra decade onto your appearance. The skin under the eye is so thin that it actually shows and puffiness surely exacerbates it. It also reduces wrinkles and fine lines that can be caused by prolonged sun exposure, tugging at the skin when removing makeup, lack of moisturising in the eye area or eye rubbing. Using eye contour cream promotes the blood's microcirculation, which is weak in this area of the face, and reaches dark circles and bags under the eyes that make you look tired. Eye contour creams are formulated with draining, decongestive, anti-wrinkle active ingredients and often these active ingredients are meant to repair signs of aging, reduce expression lines, mitigate the pigments responsible for darkening under-eye circles, relieve and improve circulation, thus resulting in a more youthful look. More often than not, eye contour creams are claimed to have been formulated “especially” for the thin, sensitive skin around the eye contour that help to correct the puffiness, the dark circles and the sagging of the eyelids. Using it consistently and regularly both in the morning and night can definitely see improvement to the appearance of the eye contour area. The continued use of an eye cream is the best way to go, to ensure bright, revitalised eye appearance that contribute to your everyday glowing look.

As women, we know too well that the skin is the first to suffer the moment we encounter stress, both internally and externally. If you want to ward of wrinkles, curb crow’s feet and say goodbye to puffiness all while promoting a healthier, more youthful appearance, then the answer, is a wholehearted, affirmative yes to a miraculous, effective eye contour cream. The eye contour area ages more easily than the skin on the rest of the face. Very often, this area is forgotten and does not receive the attention needed to keep it looking well and youthful. Why does it age, and how and with which products should we use to care for the eye contour? The eye contour area is an extremely sensitive and delicate area which betrays our age early. This is the first area where tiredness, happiness, stress and the passage of time is reflected, resulting in signs such as eye bags, dark circles, small expression lines, wrinkles, flaccidity or even dryness.

While logging a full night’s sleep seems like a reasonable fix to dark under-eye circles, it doesn’t work for most of us. Regardless of how well rested you are, dark circles can also be caused by genetics, pigmentation, allergies, and thinning skin. Using an eye cream won’t banish dark circles, but a select few creams really work, mostly by using high-tech ingredients to constrict blood vessels which cause dark shadows, diffuse light, and brighten pigmented areas for a noticeable improvement in the appearance.

Application

The effects of an eye contour cream are also due to the way that it is applied. Always ensure that skin it totally and thoroughly clean before applying the cream to allow easy penetration of the active ingredients into the skin. Cleansing the skin with warm water also helps pores to dilate and allow cream to be absorbed better. After cleansing, take a small drop of the cream, proportional to a grain of rice, and apply it with the tip of the ring finger. We recommend using this finger to spread the product, as it is the one which applies the least amount of pressure to the face. It is important to start applying the product by using gentle massaging motions and without pulling, in order to drain the area. Apply the cream to the eye socket area and the area beneath the eyebrows. If there are deeper wrinkles in the area, massage a little more firmly to enable the cream to perfectly penetrate the skin. For under eye bags, work from the outer edge inwards to encourage localised lymphatic draining. Spreading the eye contour cream from the outside to the inside has a positive effect on blood circulation and enables the drainage of accumulated fluid though the corner of the eye. Finish applying it with small tapping motions so that the cream finishes absorbing. Apply daily in the morning and in the night, always after the cleansing routine.

Ingredients

The Alpine White Brightening Eye Contour Cream contains an active ingredient called the Alpine White Complex that inhibits tyrosinase activity. It is a complex of seven Swiss alpine plants (Malva Sylvestris Extract, Mentha Piperita Leaf Extract, Primula Veris Extract, Alchemilla Vulgaris Extract, Veronica Officinalis Extract, Melissa Officinalis Leaf Extract, Achillea Millefolium Extract) selected for their potent skin lightening activity in human melanocyte cultures. Inhibiting tyrosinase results in the lightening of age spots‚ lightening of sunburn, helping to repair photo damaged skin, reversing tanning, and general lightening of the skin by returning the skin to the genetically programmed tone.

It also contains Vitamin B3, a multi-functional active that helps lighten the skin by interfering in the transfer of melanosomes to keratinocytes and has shown to significantly reduce the size of age spots, thus helping to reduce skin imperfections. It strengthens the skin by increasing resistance to barrier damage and helps to keep the skin hydrated. It also stimulates collagen synthesis that helps to improve the appearance of aged skin. It contributes to fighting acne significantly by reducing inflammatory acne lesions, including papules and pustules. Another ingredient, the Vitamin C works as a strong antioxidant that promotes collagen synthesis. It also inactivates Tyrosinase, the enzyme involved in the release of the melanin, which leads to skin darkening and uneven pigmentation. The Escin in this brightening eye cream is the complex of Escin saponins in phytosomes known to have skin lightening, anti-blotch and astringent properties. It is considered to have moisturising and soothing actions and originates from Horse Chestnut.

The CM-Glucan, a water-soluble glucan derivative, with a combined protective action to repair, regenerate, preserve and heal, has the ability to stimulate the skin’s own defense mechanism. CM-Glucan enhances the skin’s resistance to UVA induced oxidative stress as well as other environmental hazards. It enhances the turnover of cell renewal and improves the skin’s barrier while calming and reducing irritations and is therefore ideal for sensitive skin. With its anti-asthenic and diuretic properties, the Caffeine helps detoxify the tissues, thus reducing local fat deposits and puffiness. The Green Microalgae Oligopeptide improves the appearance of vascular imperfections such as dark circles and spider veins. It was shown to lessen dark circles visibly, enhancing the transparency of the skin and diminishing its pigmentation while the Shea Butter offers cell regenerative virtues and efficiently delays skin aging. It also has softening, moisturising and restructuring properties.
